Information Guide about Arthritis
Over 70 million Americans suffer from some form of arthritis, the majority
being women. There are over 100 different types of the disease, all of
which fall into one of two categories: inflammatory or degenerative. Both forms can cause considerable pain and stiffness, severly impacting your active lifestyle.
Options for sufferers include medications, diet, excercise, topical creams,
surgery, magnets, hot/cold therapy, cortisone injections, just to name a few. All of
these methods used to alleviate or eliminate pain and stiffness have varying degrees of
success. It's important to understand the underlying cause of your arthritis before you
can successfully treat it. Always consult with your doctor before beginning any type of
treatment plan.
Though each of the different types of the disease has its own causes, symptoms, and
treatments, they all have 3 major things in common:
--the joint is affected
--there is pain and loss of mobility
--there is often inflammation
The causes include, but aren't limited to: physical trauma, degenerative joint disease,
age, heredity, overuse of a joint, infection, obesity, tumor necrosis factor (TNF).
