Bathtub Transfer

Using a tub seat or bath bench will help you transfer into a bathtub or shower without putting too much weight on your surgery knee.

  1. The tub seat/bath bench should already be set up in the tub/shower.
  2. Walk backwards to the tub until you feel the tub on the back of your legs.
  3. Reach for the seat of the tub seat and slowly sit down.
  4. Swing your legs into the tub one at a time.
  5. Reverse to exit tub.

Remember to remove small throw carpets from the bathroom floor for safety. If you have a carpet in your bathroom that you don't want to remove, make sure it's secured to the floor so it won't slide out from under you. There are carpet tapes available that will safely secure your rug/carpet to the bathroom floor. Do this before your knee surgery.

Also, make sure your bathtub/shower has a non-slip surface to prevent falls.
